In the autumn of 1981, a spunky gang of Yalies decided to form an entirely new kind of music group that would combine a cappella singing, sketch comedy, and a wide-ranging repertoire of music from all genresMixing up the best aspects of Broadway and Second City, the old Yale Songbook and rock 'n' roll, they naturally called themselves "Mixed Company.” 

Over the past four decades, the group – lovingly known as "the Gump" – has united a diverse array of singers in friendship and music, toured across five continents, and released 17 studio albums.  Mixed Co. also performs regular concerts in the New Haven community and provides workshops on a cappella singing for children of all ages.

Mixed Company of Yale Alumni, Inc. (MCYA) was founded around Mixed Company's 25th anniversary and incorporated in 2019 as the Gump's official alumni association.  We seek to preserve, foster and encourage the educational and charitable activities of Mixed Company and Yale's other undergraduate a cappella singing groups through an organization of active, supportive alumni.  Each year, our activities include:
